PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti—Periodontist and dental implant surgeon Dr. Bernard Fialkoff recently traveled to Haiti to meet with the National Council of Drugs (CONALD). Fialkoff, the president and founding sponsor of Foundation for A Drug Free World of The Americas Chapter, also signed an accord for national implementation of the Drug Free World program along with CONALD director Dr. Martineau Guerrier.

On the trip, Fialkoff also trained the national drug counselors with Bishop Dr. Lubin Moise, Haiti director of Drug Free World. Dozens of local television and radio covered the signing of the accord by Dr. Martine Guerrier and other representatives of the Haitian government.

“It is important to share the knowledge we have gained as adults with our children. They are the future generation and can be helped to avoid problems that we went through in our lives. As a doctor, one of our roles is to help our community, and that’s why I support the Drug Free World initiatives," said Fialkoff.

Along with being Cuban born and valedictorian of his dental class of Stony Brook University, Fialkoff utilized his foreign language speaking skills and position as a doctor to help millions of those in need. Drug Free World will provide free drug education materials, booklets, curricula and other supplies to the country in order to deter drug abuse in the country.

In addition to his work overseas, Fialkoff also sponsored more than 15 drug education booths citywide during National Night Out. Volunteers at the booths gave out more than 7500 free drug education booklets in one night. Fialkoff elicited the help from local dentists and their staffs to volunteer at the booths as well as members of the National Latino Officers Association of America, YMCA and others.

Fialkoff sponsors the humanitarian youth outreach and educational program Foundation for a Drug Free World. Through his office’s sponsorship, more than 1100 free drug education events have been conducted at schools, after-schools and other community sites throughout New York City, New Jersey, and Latin America where multitudes of our youth and kids have been safeguarded from the ravages of drugs.
