Consultant Tip: Individual Staff Members Personal Production

The individual staff member's personal production is very important to the success or failure of your practice.

There is great cost in running an office that every staff member does not see, such as taxes, rent, office supplies, technical supplies, insurance, computers, utilities, payroll, computer services, training for the doctor and staff, janitorial services, building upkeep and improvements, dental equipment, repairs and many other things.

Each employee is expected to produce several times more than his or her personal compensation to maintain company standards and solvency.

The doctor or office manager can try to be a good boss and be popular with the team and raise their compensation to more than the standard; this will cause the entire group to crash.

The doctor and/or office manager can ignore the weak producers, the ones not carrying the load and/or the ones that keep screwing up, those body blocking the good producers and hold the other staff members back and that will tear your office to bits.

You can hear a lot of flowery talk from a staff member about how valuable they are. If you listen without really counting up statistically what they are actually producing, your practice could be going backwards without you being aware of it.

You can work yourself to death without demanding production from your team and it will cause your standard of living to crash.
