Women in Dentistry: Cecilia Mescain: Named Office Manager of the Year

The American Association of Dental Office Managers (AADOM) has presented Cecilia Mescain, FAADOM, with the 11th annual AADOM Office Manager of the Year Award. Mescain is the office manager at Smile Central Dental, a child-friendly practice in Paterson, New Jersey, helmed by Dr. Robert Grunstein.

"Cecilia is unlike any manager; she is our boss, our colleague, and a friend whose office door is always open to provide the motivation and inspiration that we need to reach our dreams," Ailiceth Espinal wrote in the nomination letter.

Each year, AADOM recognizes dental professionals who provide exceptional patient care and are shown to be an inspiration—and a leader—within their practices. AADOM invites industry leaders to serve on the committee that reviews the award nominations.

This year, the committee agreed that Cecilia's ability to inspire and motivate her team, along with her commitment to continual personal and professional growth, made her stand out among the other nominees," said Heather Colicchio, AADOM president.

Responding to her achievement, Mescain said, "I am incredibly honored to receive such great recognition from AADOM. It is very humbling to have been nominated and then chosen from such an exceptional group of dedicated dental professionals."

Espinal added, "When Smile Central Dental first opened, there was one employee—Cecilia Mescain—who worked as the dental assistant, receptionist, promoter, and events planner. Over the past decade, the practice has expanded to four offices, three mobile units, and 80 employees, and Cecilia is now chief operating officer.

"Despite the practice's success, Cecilia continues to improve by reaching out to patients for feedback, and training employees on leadership, technology and more. It's an honor to work for someone who believes in every person's potential and expresses her appreciation for us verbally, and through trips and activities," Espinal wrote.

"Cecilia constantly serves our community, attending every health fair to provide dental screenings for children. She has been able to manage four offices, earn her MBA, and raise three daughters as a single mom. Cecilia Mescain is an inspiration."

As the 2015 award winner, Cecilia will receive a special package provided by CareCredit, AADOM's Founding Sponsor, including complimentary registration to the 2016 AADOM conference, a profile story in AADOM's digital magazine, The Observer, and $1,000 in prize money.
