Synopsis:
The ultimate dental experience begins and ends with digital photography. Digital photography in dentistry provides practitioners with enormous possibilities to support everything from documentation and lab communication to testimonials and marketing. This course will help the dental practitioner maximize the benefits of clinical digital photography. Once basic knowledge of how to obtain proper exposure is understood, proper camera settings and equipment will be reviewed with tips to achieve perfect images.

Learn how to take standardized clinical images by watching Dr. Jason Olitsky complete a clinical series on a patient in his own treatment room. The course will also introduce ways to create images that are not only technically correct, but artistically superior.

Educational Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:
  • a) understand the importance of clinical photography in everyday practice.
  • b) be introduced to concepts of getting proper exposure with a DSLR camera.
  • c) learn the basic settings to capture properly exposed dental images.
  • d) have an understanding of the equipment necessary for clinical photography.
  • e) be familiarized with the twelve AACD accreditation standardized views.
  • f) know how to achieve proper position and communicate with a patient to capture the standardized views.
  • g) Be introduced to advanced concepts of lighting and photography that create images that pop.

Overall is a great course for complete beginners. For those who is somewhat familiar with DSLR cameras 1/3 of the course material will be spent on some basics that you already know such as f-stops, shutter speed and ISO settings discussed separately one from another. This may leave you without complete understanding in which order you adjust these settings based on your particular application to get the best result. I would like the presenter to spend more time to cover more important clinical questions such as tips for mirror and contrasters manipulation, tips for efficient file transfer and organization of image library, important details in differences between lighting setup between major photo equipment brands.

This course provides just the right level of technical detail for anyone to start taking reproducible standard clinical photos. Photography, much like dentistry, is an art and we need it to communicate our work more effectively and of course to celebrate our art. Excellent education. Thank you.
