Patient presented with full mouth pain/gum pain. Examination revealed full mouth perio disease. Full mouth SRPs with oral irrigation and Stannous Fluoride rinse for daily home use was the recommended treatment. Consent forms were signed by patient and procedures explained. The patient was anesthetize and left side SRPs was completed. Patient stated that their mouth was feeling better. Days later patient stated that their mouth was sore, it hurts, can't eat, I'm losing weight, throat is sore, mouth feels burnt. Patient states that we messed up their mouth. Periogard(0.12% chlorhexidine gluconate) was prescribed to patient to try to alleviate their discomfort. After several days of using the Periogard, patient still complained of continued soreness and that the Periogard is somewhat helping. Patient stated that they will go visit their general physician to see what they can do for her. Peroxyl was also recommended for patient's use. Patient was advised to discontinue use of any products that exacerbated their soreness. Referral to the Periodontist was given to the patient at this point. Patient stated that they don't have the finances to see a Periodontist. Still to no avail the patient states that they are still experiencing left side soreness of the teeth and gums and that they cannot eat on the left side of their mouth. After trying to alleviate patient's mouth/gum pain, patient is now trying to sue. Left side SRPs was done in February. I have never had an experience like this in my years of practicing dental hygiene. Has anyone experienced a patient like this?
