Oral health is integral to overall health. This program focuses on the interactions between oral and systemic health for various diseases and populations. Educating patients about the importance of their dental health to the rest of their body is a critical part of our role as healthcare providers. The course also outlines the implementation wellness concepts in your practice in a doctor directed, staff-led team approach for improving outcomes for your patients.

Description of Speaker:
Dr. Geisinger is Associate Professor and Director of Advanced Education in Periodontolgy at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. She is currently a member of the AP Board of Trustees, Chair of the Women in periodontics Task Force, and Vice Chair of the ADA Council on Scientific Affairs. She has authored over 40 publications and lectures nationally and internationally on periodontolgy and implantology topics.

Educational Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to achieve the following:
  • Better understand the current scientific evidence for the oral systemic connection
  • Develop strategies targeted at particular populations (pregnant patients, patients with diabetes, etc.) to address their unique needs with personalized care
  • Identify strategies to best optimize oral and overall health in their patients
