Synopsis:Ineffective communication, lack of complete diagnostic data, lack of time and fear of what the patient may think, are some of the common barriers that interfere with existing patients being presented a diagnosis to treat early stages of periodontal disease in the general dental practice. Even though the science has changed greatly over the last several years in regard to our understanding and treatment of periodontal diseases, the incidence of this chronic infection remains alarmingly high in the general population.
