Chicago, Ill.—The American Dental Association (ADA), Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE) and American Board of Dental Examiners (ADEX) have begun discussions on dental hygiene licensure assessment.

The collaboration will explore alignment in examination content, evaluation methods and candidate experience to support state boards in assessing candidates and protecting the public.

The discussions build on the organizations’ work to incorporate the ADA and JCNDE’s Dental Licensure Objective Structured Clinical Examination into the ADEX Dental Examination.

The ADA and ADEX expect to continue discussions over the coming months, reviewing best practices and potential approaches to consistent dental hygiene licensure examination standards. No specific examination changes or implementation timeline were announced.
