A study conducted by the Indiana University School of Dentistry’s Oral Health Research Institute has shown that the calcium peroxide-based gel used in Nu Radiance Forté Teeth Whitener significantly increased the strength of teeth with incipient lesions. The study showed that Forté promotes the remineralization of teeth during the whitening process. The same mechanism that promotes this remineralization of pre-caries lesions also reduces tooth sensitivity. To date, Forté has had more than 1,000,000 applications without a single report of any significant sensitivity.
The Nu Radiance Forté Whitening System is a dentist-provided, tray-based, take-home whitening product that uses calcium peroxide to boost the whitening effect while providing calcium compounds to remineralize the teeth and to reduce the dentinal fluid flow, a major cause of tooth sensitivity. Forté, a catalyzed 30-minute whitener, has been successfully used by thousands of patients during the past two years. It uses a dual barrel syringe to dispense freshly mixed gel, a combination of 14% calcium peroxide and 30% carbamide peroxide, at each application. Recent innovations also include multiple disposable tips to make dispensing very easy.
The Indiana University study used pooled saliva and whitening gels to simulate actual usage, and compared the calcium peroxide/carbamide peroxide gel mixture in Forté to two other gels: a popular 16% carbamide peroxide whitening gel and a buffered glycerin gel without whitening peroxide components. Remineralization was determined by comparing surface hardness of the tooth enamel after treatment to that before treatment. While the remineralization effects of the buffered glycerin and the other whitening gel in saliva were comparable, the Forté formulation produced a pre-test to post-test change in hardness value that was more than double that of either of the other materials.
The Nu Radiance Forté Whitening System is available in single patient kits with EVA material or formable mouth trays, touch-up kits, and in bulk packs of 36 individually wrapped whitening syringes.
