MAINE DENTAL HYGIENIST OF THE YEAR AWARD

Linda (Nelson)Morrison Wacholtz, RDH is the 2005-2006 recipient of the Maine Dental Hygienist Association “Hygienist of the Year” award. Linda is a graduate of the Forsyth School for Dental Hygienists, Northeastern University and the New England School of Acupuncture. She has worked in both private practice and public health in Maine, Vermont, Massachusetts, New York and Switzerland. She is past President of the Maine Dental Hygienists Association, a member of the American Dental Hygienists Association and Maine Dental Access Coalition. As owner of Dental Phases, a dental staffing service, Linda has been active in placing dental personnel throughout the state satisfying an unfilled need in Maine.
 
In 2002 Linda, along with other past presidents of MDHA, formed Prevention Partners Inc., a non-profit public charity of which she is now Executive Director. Prevention Partners provides preventive oral hygiene care to those who do not have routine access. This low cost’ service is covered by Maine Care, for recipients ages 1-20, and is available in WIC’s, Head Start locations, Schools, Nursing Homes, Physicians offices and any place there is an expressed need statewide. Just this past year, Prevention Partners fully insured dental hygienists have treated nearly 2000 children, in public school settings, 65% of them had never seen a dentist.
