PRESS RELEASE OCT. 16, 2007
FLOSS the Movie to be screened at AAP national periodontics meeting to honor periodontist, Dr. Kim Haglund. Washington, D.C., Monday Oct. 29, at AMC Loews Georgetown 14 in the Ritz Carlton Complex
Dr. Kim Haglund was one of the most important periodontists and educators in the history of dentistry. Few know about her because she died a mysterious death at age 27. Kim's outstanding contribution to dentistry was to establish programs to fast track hygienists into dental school and to recruit undergraduate women to dentistry. These widely copied programs led to an explosion of women into dentistry starting in 1975, the year she died.
A special screening of FLOSS will be held on Monday Oct. 29 at 7 and 9pm to honor the memory of Dr. Haglund. She was a sexy, politically incorrect, young periodontist who was terrorizing the dental school with her plans for change until her path crossed some real terrorists, in Seattle to sabotage the aerospace industry. One of them falls in love with her the other has to "eliminate" the problem.
Attendees at this year's perio meeting are invited to join with dentists, hygienists and staff from the Washington D.C. area to bring Kim back to life on the screen and celebrate her achievements. It is hoped that these screenings will provide for a shared experience and fun entertainment for all as well as a chance to reflect on what it means to lose someone really close.
