WATERTOWN, MA:  November 5, 2007— Recent media reports about the possible harmful effects of Bisphenol A (BPA) have created public concern with regard to the presence of Bisphenol A in many pit and fissure sealants. Embrace® WetBond Pit and Fissure Sealant contains no Bisphenol A and no Bisphenol A derivatives. Among the leading pit and fissure sealants, only Embrace can make this claim.

The October 30, 2007 episode of “The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer” featured a story on Bisphenol A that specifically mentioned dental sealants. A transcript can be found online at: http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/health/july-dec07/bottle_10-30.html.

Bisphenol A is a by-product of Bis-GMA, which is an ingredient in many dental resins and pit and fissure sealants. Embrace materials contain no Bis-GMA, and therefore there is no possibility of the presence of Bisphenol A.

Media coverage of the possible adverse health effects of Bisphenol A is likely to cause apprehension among patients as well as clinicians. Concerned practitioners have the alternative to use Embrace WetBond Pit and Fissure Sealant and other Embrace resins without fear of exposing patients to BPA.

Embrace is the only sealant that bonds to the moist tooth. A five-year clinical study shows unsurpassed results for retention and caries prevention.
