DENTSPLY International Inc Hosts 1st Annual ADHA Student Clinician Research Program

On June 19, 2009, student researchers from 12 U.S. Master of Science Degree programs were honored at the first annual DENTSPLY/ADHA Student Clinician Awards Program.  The Student Clinician Research Program is designed to peak students’ interest in research and to serve as a catalyst for their career development.  DENTSPLY and the American Dental Association established the ADA/DENTSPLY Student Clinician Research (SCADA) Program in 1959 for dental students.  Today, the SCADA program spans 35 countries.  Over 5000 dental students have participated in the program since its inception.

DENTSPLY and the ADHA are pleased to expand the student research program to include dental hygiene graduate students with the newly established DENTSPLY/ADHA Student Clinician program.  Diann Bomkamp, ADHA President, states, “Dental hygiene research has become increasingly important to achieving the mission of ADHA – to advance the art and science of dental hygiene.  Research facilitates the development of new clinical techniques, materials and treatments modalities.  It also impacts access to care, education and public and private policies on oral health.”

The dental hygiene student researchers competed at their individual schools throughout 2008 and the school winners were hosted at that American Dental Hygiene Association’s annual meeting in June 2009.  Research projects were displayed and judged at the annual session.  The national winners were announced at the awards ceremony and reception, as follows:

1st Place Winner
