Henry Schein celebrates eighth year of support for the Dr. Edward B. Shils Entrepreneurial Education Fund Awards

MELVILLE, N.Y., February 16, 2011 - Henry Schein, Inc. (NASDAQ: HSIC), the largest distributor of health care products and services to office-based practitioners, supported the 2010 Dr. Edward B. Shils Entrepreneurial Education Fund Awards, which honor entrepreneurial initiatives that provide oral health care education to communities as well as opportunities for industry professionals to demonstrate innovative care, policies or service models. The awards were presented at the end of last year at the Edward B. Shils Entrepreneurial Education Fund Award Recognition Dinner held at Pennsylvania’s Union League of Philadelphia. Last year was the eighth year that Henry Schein Cares, the Company’s global corporate social responsibility program, provided support to the Edward B. Shils Entrepreneurial Education Fund.
“The principles of leadership and entrepreneurship that Ed Shils championed during his lifetime have remained constant and relevant today, and it is Ed’s commitment and spirit that we celebrate through this special award,” said Stanley M. Bergman, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Henry Schein. “It is a great honor to recognize the entrepreneurial spirit of these very deserving winners of the 2010 Shils Awards.”
Winners are chosen annually and presented with a financial award they can give to an organization of their choice. The 2010 winners included: Ralph Fuccillo, President of the
DentaQuest Foundation; Dr. Michael Glick, Dean of the School of Dental Medicine at the
University of Buffalo; Dr. Steven Perlman, Clinical Professor of Pediatric Dentistry at the Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine; and Fit for School, Inc., a Philippine non-governmental organization committed to serving school age children. Special Recognition Awards were given to Dr. Michael Bergermann, Dr. Ruben Cohen, and Ilona Eichenberger for their work with Interplast, the first international humanitarian organization to provide free reconstructive surgery in developing countries, primarily to children with cleft lip and palate and burn scar contractures. A Special Recognition Award was also given to Dr. Jessica Meeske, founder of the Sonrisa Dental Project. The Founder Award was given to Diane Amos, the City REACH Director of the New Orleans Dream Center.
Steve Kess, Henry Schein’s Vice President of Global Professional Relations, serves as Chairman of the Dr. Edward B. Shils Entrepreneurial Education Fund Program Advisory Board, and Keith Drayer, Henry Schein’s Vice President for Financial Services, on the organization’s Program Advisory Board.
