Townies in Space

This year’s Townie Meeting was held April 17-19 in the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. "Townies in Space" was the theme of this year’s big opening costume party, sponsored each year by 1-800-Dentist. The party flowed between the VooDoo Lounge and the two outdoor terraces atop the casino, with spectacular views of the city. Music, dancing, food, cocktails and fun were the order of the evening. In addition to all the fun and parties, the meeting had a spectacular lineup of speakers.

The Townie Meeting is run by two Dentaltown Townies, Drs. Sameer Puri and Tarun Argarwal and it just gets better every year. The meeting attracts 800-1,000 Townies and exhibitors each year. The exhibit hall is the hub of activity with breakfast, lunch and cocktails served there. It is also the location of the stage and screens for the keynote speakers. This year we were treated to presentations from Dr. Bill Dorfman, Dr. Howard Farran, Dr. David Hornbrook, Dr. Paul Homoly and Daniel "Rudy" Ruetigger, the inspiration for the movie, Rudy.
Several tracks of amazing speakers were presented at the same time, making the choice difficult. Tracks other than hygiene included: Clinical, Team Enrichment, Cerec Master, Millennium Dental Laser, and Invisalign. For the past few years, I have been invited to arrange the Hygiene Track speakers for the meeting. This year Townie "Periopeak" aka Judy Carroll, RDH, presented her Periosocopy Enhanced Bone Regeneration technique; Townie "Periosupport," aka Dr. Albert Frydman, a Canadian periodontist, presented a wide variety of surgical procedures to help hygienists understand what their patients will experience when referred. He also introduced the concept of energy healing that was fully addressed by the next speaker, Dr. Richard Jelisush who spoke about the energy in and around us and the potential to use this energy for healing. If you’re interested in this phenomenon, check out the message board about this year’s Townie Meeting and find out who received energy work during the meeting and what the results were. It was a fascinating topic that fits well with clinical dental hygiene and was very popular with the audience. Townie speakers interested in being on the program next year, please send me your course proposal at: trisha@hygienetown.com.

Don’t miss next year’s Townie Meeting April 2-4, at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas (I wonder if the theme will be "Toga Party?"). See you there, in costume!
