With its lack of alcohol, GUM’s new 0.12% chlorhexidine gluconate oral rinse is the ideal CHX rinse for all your patients. There is no need to prescribe other antimicrobial rinses because of alcohol content or to those where alcohol is unsuitable. The efficacy of non-alcohol CHX rinses is supported by a number of clinical and in vitro studies.  Studies in the US and Europe have shown that a non alcohol CHX rinse is equally as effective as one with alcohol. The FDA approved the new GUM CHX rinse as therapeutically equivalent to currently available CHX rinses – all which contain alcohol.
 
Dentists have long desired a non alcohol version of the current CHX rinses. Two studies conducted in 2005 found that more than 75% of doctors surveyed would rather dispense a non-alcoholic CHX rinse if it were available.  (Studies available upon request.)
