Don't Over Complicate Your YouTube Videos

Don't Over Complicate Your YouTube Videos

Provide Value With Videos

I have found that dentists often over complicate videos. I was recently working with a friend who is a dentist in Salt Lake City, UT on providing some content marketing. I suggested making some videos to add to their YouTube channel and then link to their website. I received a call a few days later that the videographer was wanting over $1,000 to do a video about their practice, and asking if I knew of anything less expensive.

Uncomplicated Content Process

This was not the intent of my recommendation, but I realize that it happens quite often. So here are some tips to have your video drive value:
  • Answer a question - Many online searches are people asking questions. Your video will get more views if it is properly optimized and answers a question like "if I have a cavity will my tooth hurt?".
  • Keep it short - Your video doesn't need to be any longer than 1 minute.
  • Google can't see videos - When you post a video to YouTube, spend a lot of time on the description. Google can't watch videos, so it relies on the description to know what the video is about.
  • Include a link to your website in the description - Even though YouTube is a "nofollow" link, I have performed many tests that show it to be valuable in driving rankings.
  • Embed your video on your site - Your YouTube video's SEO will increase by being watched and embedded into sites. Give yourself a boost by embedding it into a page on your site.

Here is a quick example of answering a question on a YouTube video:

This video is quick and to the point, but has over 1,200 views because it answers a question that a lot of people have.

You can post these videos to Youtube, Google+, or anywhere else you like for that matter.

Conclusion

Keep it simple. Answer questions that a lot of patients have. Include content and link in the description. Embed it on your website. If you do this process often and correctly, you will see a boost in your rankings!
