This issue marks the beginning of Hygienetown’s fourth year of publication. We started with just a few hundred members on Hygienetown.com, and now that number has exploded to more than 20,000. Over the last three years, we have tried to familiarize our readers with the magazine’s research, clinical and business sections. Also familiar to our readers is Perio Reports, a section that provides summaries of published scientific research of interest to dental hygiene clinicians everywhere. You’ve also no doubt read or even taken the online poll, the results of which we publish in the magazine; and the newest innovations in dental hygiene products are showcased every month in our new products section. Last, but certainly not least, we also strive to fill each issue with message boards of topics that are most important to you.
We will continue to provide the best content that is most poignant for the dental hygiene professional, and this year we’re adding some new elements that we hope you will also enjoy. You’ll notice in this issue the first of our quarterly Dental Hygiene Department Visits. This month, we peek into the dental office where Townie Amy Cody, RDH, works. How does her office compare to yours? How do the instruments and equipment compare to yours? Perhaps your office would be one we should select for a future issue. If so, let me know: trisha@hygienetown.com.
As the new year dawns, it’s an exciting time for dental hygienists with new technologies and new procedures now available to achieve even better oral health for patients. You too have innovative ideas for treating and preventing dental disease. After reading this issue’s cover feature about innovations in periodontal therapy, join the discussion on www.hygienetown.com to share your ideas for more innovative ways to prevent dental disease.
Not all the innovative approaches discussed in this issue are readily available to you, but being aware of them helps you answer patients’ questions and hopefully gives you ideas for where you might want to take your dental hygiene department this year. See you on www.hygienetown.com.
