Periodontists and those interested in the art and science of periodontology can widen their knowledge base about the latest in periodontics and new techniques that can improve treatment outcomes at the 2005 American Academy of Periodontology’s (AAP) Annual Meeting.
The meeting will be held in Denver from September 24 – 28, and is the largest meeting about periodontics in the United States. Continuing education courses will be offered and taught by world-renowned speakers on the state of the art of laser therapy, chemotherapeutic treatment, dental implants, regenerative therapy, esthetic outcomes and much more.
Sunday’s General Session will address innovative areas in bioengineering that may lead to new periodontal therapies to grow bone around teeth and implants. “Tissue engineering is a promising field that will revolutionize dentistry and medicine by offering opportunities that were once only a dream,” said Vincent J. Iacono, DMD and president of the AAP. “Attendees will learn how stem cells play an important role in organ formation and how they may be used in dental and periodontal applications.”
The General Session on Tuesday, September 27, will feature direct participation from the audience in an interactive treatment planning session. Leaders in the field of periodontics will present cases and audience members can vote on the treatment plan of their choice before and after each clinician presents how the case should be successfully managed.
“In addition to four full days of learning, attendees will have many opportunities to visit the Annual Meeting Exhibition and network with more than 4,000 colleagues and more than 150 company representatives from around the globe,” said Iacono.
The Corporate Forum on Saturday, September 24, provides an opportunity to learn about the latest products, services and techniques from the companies that develop them.
Implant Complications in the Esthetic Zone is also a General Session that will focus on offering today’s patients function through predictable implant dentistry. This team of world-renowned experts will focus on pre-surgical three-dimensional imaging to optimize implant placement and bone and soft tissue management to prevent complications and enhance functional esthetic outcomes. This is scheduled for Tuesday, September 27 from 8:00 – 10:00 a.m.
An all-day dental hygiene symposium will take place Saturday, September 24. This program focuses on the importance of the periodontist and hygienist partnership and highlights the latest information pertinent to oral disease control and the practice of dental hygiene.
