PerioPal, LLC today previewed the next major release of its powerful periodontal software designed to make recording a periodontal exam easier and faster. PerioPal recently launched its patent pending verbal software tool, allowing hands-free periodontal charting. PerioPal's efficiency lies in its ability to verbally record, chart, store and report a periodontal exam as it occurs, thus dramatically increasing office productivity. Exam findings are recorded into a headset attached to the user's choice of hardware - laptop, desktop, or integrated system. Version 3.5 has been updated with a Networked database for multi-user access and a

Bridge
compatible with other dental packages. Also included in this version is a new Comparative Analysis tool and ReProbe feature.
PerioPal software was created using Microsoft's Speech Application Programming Interface (SAPI) which is designed to connect speech recognition engines and application programs, making it easier and more affordable for programs to be speech enabled. Microsoft's Speech software is routinely included with Windows XP and Office XP products.
PerioPal's Voice Command vocabulary consists of abbreviations and shortcuts that enable accurate recording of periodontal data in a shorter amount of time by significantly reducing the number of spoken words. These commands are used to verbally record probing depths, gingival margins, bleeding, suppuration, and other clinical findings such as mobility, furcations, plaque, and inaccurate gingival attachments. Clinical attachment levels are automatically calculated.
Spoken tooth numbers and audible tones allow the clinician to more accurately record a periodontal exam, focus visual attention in the oral cavity, and perform the exam with greater ease. PerioPal's verbal commands make it possible to perform the exam in a single pass through the mouth. The clinician is able to verbalize all oral conditions as they are observed. The verbal recording of periodontal data combined with the charting images of PerioPal will help translate periodontal findings into a language that the patient will understand. Uniform and precise reports are automatically created in simple yet comprehensive notations informing patients of their oral health.
PerioPal's new Comparative Analysis tool permits up to five probing dates to be displayed simultaneously. The on-screen comparison lets both clinician and patient view specific sites where changes have occurred as a result of treatment and home care efforts.
Another new feature to Version 3.5 is ReProbe, PerioPal's efficient method of re-examining areas of concern. When areas need to be re-examined, PerioPal guides the clinician to those areas of concern. ReProbe automatically follows the selected charting sequence, calling out only the teeth with abnormal probing depths based on the previous completed exam.
A multi-user version of PerioPal is available for users on a Windows network. A database can be stored on any shared network drive that a system has access to, allowing multiple PC's to share a common database. This greatly simplifies the back-up process.
Version 3.5 offers a simple interface to other software systems. PerioPal was designed to be easily interfaced to any of the other existing dental packages. Interfacing to dental software does require some modifications, but when done in conjunction with vendors, the integration appears seamless to the user.
