While the devastation of hurricane Katrina and the 2005 hurricane season has begun to fade from many of our minds, hearts, and television screens, some people continue to serve. Pacific Dental Services, an industry leader in dental practice management, raised a total of $100,868 to aid the victims of Hurricane Katrina. In August, PDS announced that they would match a maximum of $50,000 for all donation collections brought in by their employees, affiliated offices, vendor partners, etc. With participation by their 80+ affiliated dental offices, along with everyone else involved, PDS reached their goal of $100,000 in only about two months.
Interestingly, at PDS’ yearly “Extraordinary Performance” event in June, guest speaker Ken Blanchard (Servant Leader, One Minute Manager) announced that the theme for PDS this year would be, “We Serve”. Blanchard’s encouragement could not have been timelier for the company’s motivation to help those in need during the devastation that followed only a couple months later. PDS answered the call to Hurricane Katrina and stepped up by hanging donation awareness posters at all of their affiliated offices throughout California and Arizona. They also put up notices, handed out flyers, constantly talked about helping the hurricane victims, and built relationships with others interested in helping collect donations. All in all, their “We Serve” determination prevailed when they reached their $100,000 donation goal just a short time ago.
Pacific Dental Services’ “We Serve” attitude did not stop there, as they continue to provide assistance. Recently, the American Dental Association (ADA) teamed up with PDS to provide dentist and dental professionals in hurricane devastated areas with career opportunities. For those looking for a new start, the PDS website (www.PacificDentalServices.com) and the ADA website (www.ADA.org) have announcements to inform those who are relocating to California and Arizona that PDS is providing opportunities for them.
