VibraJect LLC has announced the newly improved  VibraJect R3, the dental syringe attachment designed to reduce and eliminate the pain associated with dental injections is now available with a rechargeable battery.  Patented by Oral Surgeon Dr. Norman Pokras and developed by dental product inventor Ron Coss, this small, easy-to-use vibrating dental injection syringe attachment is an effortless way to make patients of all ages more comfortable and eliminate the fear of injections.  The VibraJect reduces the discomfort of extremely painful palatal, mandibular block, infiltration and intraligamental injections, while offering a great deal of emotional relief to the needle-phobic and the unusually pain sensitive patient.

Statistics show that 30 to 40 million people in the US are so afraid of dental treatment that they avoid it altogether.  In addition, more than 50% of non-attending public have phobia of dental pain associated with dental injections, and 90% have at least mild anxiety about receiving an injection.  By eliminating the pain associated with injections, VibraJect has the capability of eliminating any negative stigmas patients associate with these dental injections.  It has been proven that when using the VibraJect on children over the age of 5, the possibility of them developing a life long fear of injections no longer exists.
 
The VibraJect R3 system utilizes the Gate Control Theory of Pain Management, proposed in 1965 by psychologists Ronald Melzack and Patrick Wall, to reduce and eliminate the pain associated with dental injections.  This theory suggests that the brain only has the ability to perceive one sensation at a time, giving rise to the strategy of causing a sensation other than pain that supersedes the sensations generated by the injection.  The VibraJect’s small battery-driven motor vibrates at 10,000 cycles per minute, creating vibrations to the needle that have been shown to inhibit painful sensations as they stimulate the appropriate nerves prior to or at the same time as painful stimuli.  As a result, patients only perceive the vibrations, thereby blocking any pain signal.  Moreover, the buzzing noise created by the motor acts as an additional stimuli and provides an added distraction.
 
The VibraJect's ability to assist in the reduction and elimination of pain perceived by the patient was assessed by qualified dentists in a randomized controlled clinical trial at Queen's University Belfast, Northern Ireland. The study involved 329 patients, and it was determined that by using the VibraJect, the patient's perception of pain was reduced and the statistics indicated less painful injections to patients, especially in the most painful areas. This study also concluded that there was no perceptible pain reduction when using a topical anesthetic with VibraJect. The dentists involved gave positive feedback such as its ease of use, efficiency, and its non-invasiveness. Overall, it was deemed a useful tool in the quest to improve dentist-patient rapport.
 
The VibraJect R3 does not utilize any disposable accessories, so you will not incur any additional costs.  The VibraJect R3 is now available with rechargeable batteries, which provide stronger and longer lasting performance.  There is no longer a need to buy new batteries or be concerned when it is time to change them to obtain maximum battery life.  These new rechargeable batteries can be recharged overnight in the VibraJect Battery Charger provided. In addition, VibraJect R3 provides an extra battery to ensure a fully charged battery is always on hand.  This stronger performance also allows for a comfortable Buccal Furca PDL injection to provide quicker anesthesia to a local area with no numbness to the tongue or cheek, saving chair time and providing a more comfortable experience for the patient, while also eliminating the hazards and discomfort of a mandibular block.
 
In addition to the convenience of the rechargeable battery, the VibraJect system comes with three clips, which are autoclavable, and were designed to remain attached to the syringe during the sterilization process.  The motor cartridge cannot be heat sterilized, but is easily detachable and can be cleaned by using an alcohol wipe or disinfecting solution such as Cavicide, Birex or Lysol.
 
The VibraJect is both practical and convenient to use.  It saves you time and money by eliminating the need to use a topical anesthetic to eliminate pain. Consequently, it eliminates the annoyance of the bitter after taste patients experience from topical anesthetic. In addition, the VibraJect does not require dentists to learn a new injection technique.  It allows them to continue to use their normal, preferred injection technique.  In fact, the VibraJect even allows you to insert the needle faster, thus shortening the injection time.
