The Prophy Aid is a patented prophy paste holder and polishing method. The Prophy Aid attaches to the small suction. Therefore, the provider polishing a patient’s teeth can polish and suction at the same time without worrying about ever dropping the polishing paste which also speeds up the polishing process. Other benefits are as follows: 1) reduces SPLATTER – reducing cross-contamination, 2) creates an ideal dry environment while polishing, 3) IMPROVES the patient’s comfort, 4) improves provider’s visibility, 5) improves provider’s ergonomics, 6) ELIMINATES stopping and reaching for the suction while polishing and 7) and is reusable and autoclavable.
I’ve been in the field of dentistry for 24 years now. As I’m sure you may have found there are certain aspects of a dental hygienist’s job that are frustrating. Polishing was always that to me. Patients wanted a rinse in the middle of the polishing process, stopping our rhythm or the patient’s were pooling with saliva and we had to stop to suction. Splatter would occur increasing the patient’s discomfort and the risk of cross-contamination. Therefore, I developed and patented the Prophy Aid™ and the new method of polishing dental patient’s teeth.
