Zhermack Inc., a leading producer of impression materials for dental clinicians and high-tech solutions for dental laboratories, announces the introduction of Tropicalgin, a rapid-setting, dust-free, chromatic alginate impression material that automatically changes color to signal each phase of clinical application.

The three-phase chromatic characteristics of Tropicalgin make it simple and convenient to use in clinical application, as the material changes color to signify each phase: Tropicalgin remains purple during the 45 second mixing time, changes to orange during the 1 minute 35 second processing time in the tray, and finally turns yellow to signify that it is ready for insertion in the mouth, and is ready for removal in just 60 seconds. Its pleasant, light mango flavor is patient-friendly for kids and adults alike.

Additionally, Tropicalgin offers improved stability in four key areas: Dimensional stability, performance stability, disinfection stability and storage stability.

Dimensional Stability: Tropicalgin is specially formulated to resist natural contraction due to water evaporation. This results in excellent dimensional stability that allows the impression to be stored for hours in a long-life bag before casting the model without undergoing any change in size.

Performance Stability: Tropicalgin’s regulated particle size is more uniform and smoother, resulting in a dense, compact surface that produces a higher degree of detail and definition. Its thixotropic properties ensure a drip-free mixture that flows only when pressure is exerted during the taking of an impression, while a unique mixture of irreversible hydrocolloids with various compositions gives the alginate structure an ideal balance between resistance and elasticity. Tropicalgin offers improved compatibility with all plaster types, including synthetics.

Disinfection Stability: When used with Sterigum Powder, a safe and effective disinfection is achieved by placing the impression in the solution for three minutes, which in no way compromises the integrity of the impression.

Storage Stability: Zhermack’s innovative modified atmosphere packaging system replaces the air in the bag with an inert gas that considerably extends the life of the alginates, thereby
preserving the technical and organic properties of the product. This process allows Zhermack to offer a 5-year guarantee on its complete Long Life Alginate System line.

Tropicalgin can be used in many different dental and lab applications, including mobile prostheses, study models and antagonists, and both fixed and removable prostheses.
