$8,000 in dental hygiene scholarships

WDA Foundation awards $8,000 in scholarships to 16 dental hygiene students

The Wisconsin Dental Association (WDA) Foundation, which is largely supported by individual member dentists of the WDA, recently awarded $8,000 in scholarships to 16 dental hygiene students enrolled in state technical colleges who have demonstrated academic achievement and financial need.

Recipients of this year’s $500 scholarships and their hometowns include:

·      Chippewa Valley Technical College – Michelle Gajda (Eau Claire) and Melissa Gunther (Barron)

·      Fox Valley Technical College – Jenny Goertzen (Menasha) and Jennifer Karls (Chilton)

·      Madison Area Technical College – Kayla Tueting (Cottage Grove) and Andrea Quilling (Madison)

·      Milwaukee Area Technical College – Carol Bratt (Racine) and Elizabeth Diezler (West Allis)

·      Northcentral Technical College – Johanna Cable (Rhinelander) and second recipient to be awarded in the fall

·      Northeast Wisconsin Technical College – Holly VandeVoort (Seymour) and Ellery Kassin (Iron Mountain, Mich.)

·      Waukesha County Technical College – Samantha Schroeder (Manitowoc) and Laura Thiele (Cleveland)

·      Western Technical College – Katie Ekern (West Salem) and Channon Kennedy (La Crosse)     

The Wisconsin Dental Association Foundation was created as the charitable arm of the Wisconsin Dental Association (WDA) in 1957. A qualified, tax-exempt corporation, the foundation provides scholarships to dental and dental hygiene students attending accredited schools in Wisconsin. It also gives financial support to projects providing dental care to the underserved and other dental-related philanthropic endeavors. The foundation also administers the Donated Dental Services program.

Established in 1870, the WDA is headquartered in West  Allis. With more than 2,900 members statewide, the WDA represents the vast majority of practicing dentists in Wisconsin. Its members are committed to promoting professional excellence and quality oral health care.
