Mind Your Body, Pilates for the Seated Professional

NEW BOOK FOCUSES ON SEATED PROFESSIONALS’ SOLUTION FOR BODY ACHES!
Posted: June 29, 2007

Ask a number of professionals if they experience back, shoulder and or neck pain when they are seated and the overwhelming answer is “yes!”  Such is the premise behind MIND YOUR BODY: Pilates for the Seated Professional, a book created especially for those who need to lengthen tight muscles, release stiff joints, strengthen the core abdomen, and improve daily functioning, both effectively and efficiently by author, teacher, Pilates instructor and dental hygienist Juli Kagan.

Mind Your Body shows exercises that are preventive and reparative in nature thereby eliminating or reducing aches by bringing the body into a state of health within the first few sessions.

Whether you are a person leaning over a computer all day, an architect perched precariously on a high chair, a worker who stays in static positions for long periods of time, or a professional who often postures him/herself in an attempt to get out of discomfort, this book is for you!

Pilates has been around for over 80 years and utilizes disciplines such as Martial Arts, Gymnastics, Calisthenics, Scuba Diving, and Yoga.  The abdominal core is primary and the extremities are secondary when executing Pilates movements.  Most other forms of strength and flexibility training focus primarily on the specific muscle or extremity itself.  Pilates exercises are performed in an order and there are only certain number of repetitions for each one, so boredom is eliminated.

Explains the author, “I wrote this because there is no other book that helps the seated professional in a preventive manner regarding strengthening and stretching.  Most articles or subsections in books deal with the work environment (ergonomics) or an ailing body.  I wanted to present a book that dealt primarily with foundational abdomen and back muscles to prevent future problems.  The importance of core strength is becoming more widely recognized in the fitness industry as imperative and vital for a fully functioning body.”

Author Juli Kagan knows of which she speaks; with three Pilates Certifications, two degrees in dental hygiene, as well as a Masters Degree in Education, she has over 25 years of experience teaching in both the fitness and dental fields.  The author was born in Washington, D.C., and currently lives in Florida with her husband, David and son, Zachary.
