The American Academy of Periodontology Hosts 93rd
Annual Meeting in Washington, DC

CHICAGO – On October 27th the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) kicked off its 93rd Annual Meeting in Washington, DC.  The meeting began with an opening ceremony, launching the four day event.  Preston D. Miller, Jr,. DDS, 2006-2007 AAP President, gave his Presidential Address to the crowd of AAP members, colleagues, and other guests. At the opening ceremony, the Academy presented awards such as the Gold Medal Award to Michael G. Newman, DDS, the Presidential Award to Vincent J. Iacano, DMD, and the Humanitarian Award to William C. James, DDS among many others.

The AAP also previewed its newly redesigned Web site. The Web site is being redesigned with consumers in mind to help them easily gain the information they require in a new and improved format.
Another highlight of this year’s meeting was the Dental Hygiene Symposium. “This year’s Annual Meeting was different because it brought together experts to help attendees understand the different therapeutic modalities for treating periodontal disease,” said Susan Karabin, DDS, 2007-2008 President of the AAP, “The benefits and limitations of the different treatment options were discussed and the feedback from attendees was that this meeting was very informative.”
With over 6,000 attendees, the AAP’s 93rd Annual Meeting was a huge success. Members and colleagues attended meetings and workshops with topics ranging from inflammation to insurance coding. The Academy is looking forward to building upon the success of this year’s meeting when they host next year’s 94th Annual Meeting in Seattle.
