NCOHF Launches 2010 Affiliate Webinar Series
With Renowned International Dental Lecturer Dr. Allen Wong

(Charlotte, NC—January 25, 2010) Through a generous technology donation from DENTSPLY International, National Children’s Oral Health Foundation: America’s Toothfairy? (NCOHF) recently launched a monthly Webinar series for members of the NCOHF Affiliate network. The 2010 series features highly respected and distinguished speakers from a variety of professional sectors concerned with children’s health and overall best practices in providing care. Each session will provide valuable evidence-based information to improve NCOHF Affiliate programs and practices, and recorded sessions will also be available following each Webinar for Affiliates unable to attend the live event.

“In offering this educational service to our valued Affiliates, we hope to encourage the implementation of innovative best practices that address the unique patient needs in each partner program,” explained Fern Ingber, NCOHF President and CEO. “We are very grateful and proud that renowned health leaders like Dr. Allen Wong have volunteered to take part in our series.”

Dr. Allen Wong, DDS, Director of the Hospital Dentistry and Restorative Implant Programs at Highland Hospital/Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry presented “Caries Management By Risk Assessment (CAMBRA) for Patients With Special Needs” to the Affiliate network on January 20. His presentation reviewed the science behind CAMBRA and offered strategies to incorporate into each Affiliate program that will effectively improve patients’ oral health. Caries Risk Assessment is a medical model that has been adopted by the American Dental Association and widely considered a standard of care.

Cindy Goodwin, Clinical Coordinator at NCOHF Affiliate Catholic Healthcare West, expressed her appreciation for Dr. Wong’s presentation, stating, “It was so rewarding to hear over and over to [treat] the underlying cause of caries…prevention is such a major key to helping children. I really appreciated [Dr. Wong’s] in-depth study of how to approach the Caries Imbalance.”

Dr. Wong has taught postdoctoral general dentistry for 20 years and is a member of American Dental Association (ADA), California Dental Association (CDA) and San Francisco Dental Society. He has lectured nationally and internationally in the areas of special care dentistry, rotary endodontics and minimally invasive dentistry. He is also active with the Special Olympics Special Smiles program, American Academy of Developmental Medicine and Dentistry (AADMD) and Special Care Dentistry Association (SCDA).
