ADEAGies Foundation Announces William J. Gies Awards for Vision, Innovation, and Achievement
Call for Nominations
Gies Awards Celebration to be held March 14, 2011, in San Diego
WASHINGTON, DC (August 4, 2010) — Nominations are now being accepted through October 29, 2010, for the 2011 William J. Gies Awards for Vision, Innovation, and Achievement (the Gies Awards). Presented by the ADEAGies Foundation, the Gies Awards recognize exceptional contributions to and support of oral health and oral health education around the world.
The Gies Awards will be presented at a highly anticipated celebration held in conjunction with the 2011
ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition, which will held March 12-16 in San Diego, California.
The Gies Awards, named after dental education pioneer William J. Gies, Ph.D., have honored individuals
and organizations that exemplify dedication to the highest standards of vision, innovation, and achievement
in global oral health and dental education, research, and leadership since 2008.
“The Gies Awards continue to inspire people across the dental education spectrum who carry forward Dr.
Gies' legacy of vision, innovation, and achievement. The ADEAGies Foundation anticipates many
nominations this year for these important awards that honor the work of our community,” said Richard W.
Valachovic, D.M.D., M.P.H., President of the ADEAGies Foundation and Executive Director of the American Dental Education Association (ADEA).
Honorees will be selected by a distinguished panel of judges consisting of the ADEAGies Board of Trustees.
The Gies Awards offer significant visibility both within and outside the dental education community, drawing
much-needed attention to the essential role of dental education and educators in enhancing global oral
health and education.
The 2010 Gies Awards honorees were (in alphabetical order): Dental Fears Research Clinic at the University
of Washington School of Dentistry; The Forsyth Institute; International Association of Student Clinicians-
American Dental Association (SCADA) Program; Israel Kleinberg, D.D.S., Ph.D., D.Sc., F.R.C.D.; Patricia
Nunn, R.D.H., M.S.; Mary Otto; No-Hee Park, D.M.D., Ph.D.; Barbara J. Sabol, M.A.; Michael R. Sudzina; and the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry.
