Journal of the California Dental Association Continues CAMBRA Focus
CDA publication details implementation of caries management by risk assessment
For Immediate Release
Sacramento, Calif. — The November issue of the Journal of the California Dental Association features part two of its discussions on advancing the practice of dental disease management. The publication focuses on successfully incorporating caries management by risk assessment (CAMBRA) into private practice, federally qualified health centers and current pre-existing government and organizational programs.
This issue includes articles from practitioners, third-party payers and private philanthropy outlining each party’s role in bringing about change and their own experiences with implementation of CAMBRA protocols in practice. Among topics covered is one payer’s experience with designing a plan to reimburse for risk-based, patient-centered services and how some practices are finding success implementing the CAMBRA model in the current environment.
“Authors in this issue discuss their experiences with barriers to implementation of CAMBRA and detail the ways in which they overcame these obstacles,” said Kerry Carney, DDS, editor-in-chief of the Journal. “This issue expands on the importance of individualized risk-based care that focuses on controlling specific caries risk factors.”
Exploring the format used in a pediatric dental practice and in a general dentistry practice is an article titled “Successful Business Models for Implementation of Caries Management by Risk Assessment in Private Practice Settings.”
In addition, the November Journal examines how an evidence-based risk assessment tool and caries disease intervention approach can be incorporated into federally qualified health center dental delivery systems, the potential obstacles in doing so, and the rationale for overcoming those obstacles.
