American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) Installs New Board of Trustees President

Dr. Nancy Newhouse Appointed at 98th Annual Meeting

Chicago (October 2, 2012) – Nancy Newhouse, DDS, of Independence, Missouri, was named as President of the American Academy of Periodontology Board of Trustees during its 98th Annual Meeting held September 29 through October 2, 2012 in Los Angeles.

A member of the AAP since 1983, Dr. Newhouse has previously served on multiple committees including the Executive Committee, the American Dental Association Liaison Committee, Task Force on Membership Value, Task Force for Website Redesign, Finance Committee, Planning Committee, and Awards Committee. She served as the AAP’s Secretary/Treasurer in 2010, as Vice President in 2011 and President-Elect in 2012.

In addition to her private periodontal practice in Independence, Missouri, Dr. Newhouse is also an assistant professor at the University of Missouri - Kansas City School of Dentistry. She has been a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology since 1989.

“Dr. Newhouse’s extensive clinical experience paired with her service on the AAP Board of Trustees makes her an invaluable part of the Academy leadership,” said Pamela McClain, DDS, 2012 AAP President. “The Academy has many exciting initiatives planned in 2013 including continued collaboration with the Ad Council, ongoing outreach towards general dentists and sustained support of the science behind periodontal disease. Dr. Newhouse is a great asset to the profession of periodontology.”

Dr. Newhouse received her dental degree from University of Missouri - Kansas City School of Dentistry in 1980 and completed her postgraduate work in periodontology at University of Texas Health Science Center- San Antonio in 1986.

“I believe the work we do as periodontists has never been more important,” says Dr. Newhouse. “In my role as President of the American Academy of Periodontology, I look forward to working with the entire dental profession on addressing the prevalence of periodontal disease in our country and improving the overall health of our patients.”
