Are yours patient charts up to date? Chart audits occur to make sure patient's health history is updated yearly, or more if medically necessary. Citations may occur something is not properly updated. The following are some things that may be checked during your next inspection from your Board of Dentistry.
- Patient's name and date of treatment
- List of drugs prescribed, administered, dispensed and the quantity
- Radiographs
- Medical History
- Name of dentist and dental hygienist providing service (initial is fine)
- Patient records maintained for not less than 6 years from the most recent date of service. If they are not 18, charts are kept until they turn 18 in Virginia and 21 in Maryland.
Be sure to keep all your charts updated!
