St. Petersburg, FL – November 17, 2008 – The Dawson Academy today announced its 2009 curriculum, which includes several new courses and locations, offering a variety of options for every member of the dental team.

The four new courses are:
·         The Restorative – TMD Patient: Diagnosis and Treatment Planning
·         Predictable Dentistry – Predictable Success: Putting Your Practice in the Top  Ten Percent
·         Dental Assisting 1
·         Dental Assisting 2

In addition to the classes held in Florida and Virginia, The Dawson Academy will be taking its show on the road next year to the following cities: Boston, MA; Orlando, FL; Traverse City, MI; Naperville, IL; and Oakbrook, IL.

The classes cover a variety of topics pertaining to dentists, hygienists, laboratory technicians and clinical assistants.  All classes fall under The Dawson Academy’s four learning tracks – Core Curriculum, Advanced Restorative Electives, Dental Medical Track and Practice and Professional Growth.  The Dawson Academy has designed its curriculum to be a complete methodology for general dentists, specialists and the entire dental team with the ultimate goal being to help students develop a highly effective, efficient practice.  Successful graduates demonstrate clinical confidence and are able to increase production and reduce debt.  The Dawson Academy strives to help students create their dream practice while finding balance with their professional and personal lives.

Core Curriculum
The Core Curriculum teaches the fundamental principles and clinical skills that make dentistry completely predictable.  The essence of the curriculum is that the teeth are only one part of the masticatory system, and when the entire system functions in harmony, teeth are healthy and stable.  Understanding the masticatory system enables you to precisely determine the exact position and contour of anterior teeth – no guess work required.  When examined and diagnosed within the framework of the entire system, problems such as excessive tooth wear, sore teeth and masticatory muscles, and fractured restorations can all be solved.  Completion of the Core Curriculum will move you beyond being a “tooth doctor” and set you on the path of becoming a “physician of the masticatory system.”
Lectures:
·         Functional Occlusion – From TMJ to Smile Design
·         Achieving Predictable Esthetic Results

Hands-on:
·         Comprehensive Examination and Records
·         Treatment Planning Functional Esthetic Excellence
·         The Art and Science of Equilibration
·         Restoring Anterior Teeth
·         Occlusion and Function for Lab Technicians

Advanced Restorative Electives
The Dawson Academy moves beyond the clinical competencies developed in the Core Curriculum to a deeper focus on advanced diagnosis and treatment planning.  These mastery level courses encourage deep exploration into the topics and significant interaction between instructors and students.  In this Track, the courses are designed to instill the confidence and ability to treat major restorative cases successfully.  Advanced diagnosis and treatment planning, especially sequencing complex cases, is the hallmark of the programming in the Advanced Restorative Track.  Specific “how-tos” of the most current materials, techniques and technologies are woven throughout these advanced offerings.
Lecture:
·         Advanced Problem Solving

Hands-on:
·         Mastering Complex Treatment Planning
·         The Restorative – TMD Patient: Diagnosis and Treatment Planning (NEW)

Dental Medicine Track
Dr. Dawson has long advocated for dentists to recognize their unique role as physicians of the masticatory system.  Dentistry is the only medical specialty with full responsibility for the head and neck, and thus the associated conditions which can develop in this region.  Through a multidisciplinary approach, students in the Dental Medicine Track will expand their ability to diagnose and treat head, neck, and orofacial pain and sleep disorders.
Hands-on:
·         Temporomandibular Disorder: Current Concepts
·         Head and Neck Anatomy with Dissection
·         Occlusal Splint Therapy: Rationale, Indications and Fabrication Workshop

Practice and Professional Growth Track
To create the best possible patient experience and a practice that delivers optimal patient care at all times, the entire dental team must understand and embrace the mission of the practice.  The Dawson Academy presents seminars and workshops that provide clinical and behavioral education for all team members, as well as training in entrepreneurship and leadership.  These offerings are also designed to develop the non-clinical competencies often missing in the dental practice.  As an integrated curriculum, the messages are consistent with the clinical teachings, and support the systems and processes needed to implement complete dentistry.
