Tip from Consultant Sandy Pardue: Patient Goodbye's

It is of utmost importance that your patients know you are glad to see them when they arrive, but it is also important that they know you were glad you had the opportunity to see them, visit with them and treat them.  They are GUESTS in your office and should be treated as such.

Therefore, it is the responsibility of all staff seeing patients to make sure they know you were glad to see them and to tell them “GOOD BYE” when they’re leaving the office. 

Below are some suggestions on how to say “good-bye” to a patient:

 It was good to see you today Mrs.                                   .  Have a good holiday season…vacation…trip…etc.”

“It was good to see you today Mr.                          .  We’ll look forward to seeing you in six months.”

Use whatever patter you have in common with the patient.  Make sure to call the patient by their name. 

DO NOT let the patient leave without a “GOOD-BYE” per good etiquette.
