Kristen Labrue of Fort Myers, Fla., was arrested after she allegedly wrote five fraudulent checks to herself and her husband’s account for $79,662, NBC affiliate WBBH reported Aug. 30.

Labrue worked at Pediatric Dentistry of Fort Myers from April 2021 to June 2021, according to the report.

The practice owner contacted police on Nov. 2, 2021 after the owner’s bank had called about a check cashed from the business account that was denied after a second cashing attempt.

The practice owner discovered that five fraudulent checks had been written on his business account, from May to June  2021, totaling $79,662, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

The checks were made to Kristen Lozano (Labrue’s maiden name) and to her husband. The checks were cashed from June 3 to Aug. 3,  2021.

A query of Labrue’s husband showed he passed away around September 4, 2021. Labrue was not listed as an owner of her husband’s bank account, but transactions showed she still had access to it.

Labrue stopped coming to work around June 18, 2021, WBBH reported.

According to the report, photographs taken at the Regions Bank ATM showed a woman resembling Labrue depositing checks in June 2021. Detectives match signatures on the fraudulent checks with a signature from Labrue’s driver’s license.

Labrue is facing  several charges of grand theft, deposit with intent to defraud and  criminal use of personal identification information, according to the  sheriff’s office. Download Court Record [17.41 KB]

According to the sheriff’s office, Ms. Labrue was previously arrested in October 2021 after allegedly stealing $100,000 from The Colony at Pelican Landing Foundation.

According to the documents filed with the Lee County Clerk’s Office, Labrue took the money over a period of five months beginning in May 2020 and is facing a charge of first-degree grand theft.
